Ciclo Internacional de Debates 2025.2026

International Cycle of Debates

Filosofia, Cidade & Políticas Públicas | Philosophy, City & Public Policy 2025.2026

In an increasingly urbanised world, shaped continuously by social, technological, and economic forces, tensions are intensifying between the imperatives of competitive productivity, the pursuit of social cohesion, and the need for more equitable models of public governance. Concurrently, the crisis of democracy - marked by the erosion of trust in institutions, the resurgence of ideological extremisms, and the growing political polarisation - has triggered the emergence of bio-techno-political mechanisms of life regulation and has further alienated citizens from political engagement.
Nevertheless, urban issues have gained prominence on the international agenda, both in the political arena and academia, underscoring the need to establish closer connections between politics and citizens through substantially more democratic debates on public policy. Thus, this International Cycle on Philosophy, City and Public Policy aims to foster a pluralistic and critical discussion on some of the most pressing challenges of the contemporary world, from housing to the global environmental crisis, including migration issues and the rise of artificial intelligence. The initiative intends to respond to the increasing demands of social responsibility imposed by the complexity of the present era and to contribute to the reconfiguration of the good life within the context of the city-world.
